The Montessori Method

The Montessori Method of Teaching is based on encouraging and developing the child's interest and independence through a wide range of exercises using specific materials working individually or in group. Subjects are integrated and child centred, giving children the best opportunities to develop effectively their knowledge and understanding of the world.

The basic tenet of the method is 'Freedom within a structured environment'.

Both Nurseries are members of the Montessori Schools Association (MSA).

Aims

“Everything we do is geared to the enjoyment of learning.”
The first years of life have a great influence on a child's mind and character, thus the aim of the School is to encourage the child to have a desire to discover, learn and gain independence.

We believe praise and encouragement are the foundations for building their self-esteem and confidence.

Discipline is important in a child's life and we do approach this with love and firmness, encouraging them to make the right choices and to live within the boundaries set for them.

The Role of the Parents

We welcome the involvement and support of parents within the Nursery and we are keen to foster a good and happy relationship between the school and home environment at all times. Parents are invited to come in to join our daily activities and we have many parents who volunteerd with bookreading, helping with the school plays, introduce festivals and celebrations to the children.

Both sites have a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) set up. The PTAs organise coffee mornings, social evenings and they hold regular meetings with the teachers to give parental feedback and discuss upcoming events.

Montessori teaching

We truly believe in delivering the 'proper' Montessori ethos and teaching therefore both of our nurseries have gone through the strict Montessori Accreditation procedures and are the only MEAB accredited nursery schools in the local area.

We are proud to say nearly all of our teachers hold the full Montessori Diploma (level 4) and the others attended Montessori training courses plus have recognised (at least level 3) qualifications.

We work in close partnership with Montessori Centre International (MCI) and are registered Montessori training placement schools for MCI students.
